Ingredients of Channa Masala
- Prepare 1 cup of soaked Channa (Garbanzo Beans).
- You need 1 of small onion finely chopped.
- Prepare 2 of tomatoes chopped.
- Prepare 2-4 of green chillies finely chopped (if available).
- You need 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste.
- You need 1 tsp of cumin seeds.
- You need 1 1/2 tsp of garam masala powder.
- It's 2 tsp of oil.
- Prepare 1 tbsp of butter / oil (for the very end).
- Prepare of Finely chopped coriander.
- It's of Salt.
Channa Masala step by step
- Start with 1 cup channa that has been soaked overnight.
- Heat up the 2 tsp oil in a deep wide pan. Add in the cumin seeds and allow to sputter. Then add i the ginger garlic paste and the chopped onions, saute until lightly brown. Put in the chopped tomatoes and green chiiles and saute well till it looks well blended and most of the water content is gone. Turn off the stove..
- Transfer this to the slow cooker, add in the Channa, put in salt (if it is soaked channa - about 1/2 -3/4 tsp) Turn on the slow cooker and leave on high for 8 hours..
- Heat the butter in a pan. Once it is melted and hot, add in the garam masala and let it froth up. Then turn off the heat and transfer this to the cooked channa. Mix well..
- Garnish with chopped coriander..
- This can be made the same way with soaked kidney beans (Rajma) as well. Follow all steps, just substitute rajma beans for channa..
