Recipe: Appetizing Gumbo

Gumbo. With a slow cooked roux and gumbo file powder flavoring the shrimp, crabmeat, and andouille sausage, this gumbo is an authentic creole meal. Gumbo is a soup or stew that is served alongside or on top of rice. Jambalaya is a casserole that is cooked in the same pot as the rice.

Ingredients of Gumbo

  1. It's 3/4 cup of flour.
  2. You need 3/4 cup of vegetable oil.
  3. Prepare 2 cup of yellow onion diced.
  4. You need 1 cup of green bell pepper diced.
  5. You need 1 cup of celery chopped.
  6. You need 3 clove of garlic minced.
  7. Prepare 4 cup of chicken broth.
  8. Prepare 1 tbsp of chicken base.
  9. You need 3 cup of water.
  10. You need 2 of bay leaves.
  11. It's 1 tsp of dry thyme.
  12. It's 1 tsp of dry basil.
  13. It's 1/3 cup of dry parsley.
  14. It's 1 tsp of lemon pepper.
  15. Prepare 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper (optional).
  16. Prepare 2 tsp of cajun seasoning (I use Tony Chaacheres).
  17. It's 2 tbsp of soy sauce.
  18. You need 1 can (14.5 oz) of diced tomatos.
  19. It's of Long grain white rice.

Gumbo is very tall and skin is the color red. His eyes, mouth, nose, and eyebrows are very similar to Gumby's. Though gumbo may be considered a soup or a stew and jambalaya is more of a casserole, there's a Gumbo vs. Become a seasoned pro when it comes to telling.

Gumbo instructions

  1. Cook rice set aside.
  2. In large pot cook oil and flour until it comes to a dark brown color (medium/high heat, constantly stirring).
  3. Now add onion, bell pepper, celery and garlic to that mixture (also known as a roux) sautee for 4 minutes.
  4. Add rest of ingredients to pot and bring to a boil, now lower temperture to simmer and cover for 1hour.
  5. Pour gumbo mixture over rice and enjoy.
  6. *** You can add things like okra, sausage, chicken, oysters, crabmeat, shrimp, scallops ect... When adding seafood add towards the end of cooking process so it doesnt over cook. Always cook meat before adding to mixture. File' powder is always nice on top too but is an option..
